Why Intern with Us?

Interning with Healthy Savannah allows you to make a real impact in our community while gaining valuable experience in public health, policy, and advocacy. You can choose your focus from our four strategy areas: nutrition, physical activity, and breastfeeding. As part of our team, you’ll work on meaningful projects that promote healthy living, collaborate with a diverse network of over 200 partner organizations, and receive mentorship from experienced professionals. We also offer flexible in-person, virtual, and hybrid options to ensure your experience fits your needs.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (SUBJECT TO CHANGE THROUGHOUT INTERNSHIP)

General Expectations

  • Attend Healthy Savannah internal meetings.
    • Monthly team meeting, bi-monthly partner steering committee meeting, bi-monthly Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition meeting, monthly PR meeting, and weekly communications meetings.
  • Participate in 1–2 community events per month, engaging with the public and distributing community surveys.
  • Check email regularly for correspondence from staff.
  • Contribute innovative thoughts and ideas to Healthy Savannah’s work.
  • Draft the monthly newsletter.

Physical Activity Strategy

  • Attend 1-2 Tuesday Healthy Walks starting at 7:30/8:00 AM to engage with participants and better understand community use of trails. 
  • Educate community members about physical activity and the healthy walk initiative during community events. 
  • If held, attend the physical activity stakeholder meeting.
  • Develop educational posts/reels:
    • Highlighting Savannah’s trails and parks to encourage physical activity. 
    • Promoting the CDC’s Moving Matters Campaign. 
    • Connecting monthly observances and family-friendly physical activities as a means of prevention.

Breastfeeding Strategy

  • Make social media posts using weekly content provided by the U.S. Breastfeeding Coalition and deliver to the Communications Manager.
  • Conduct outreach to identify breastfeeding-friendly businesses and organizations:
    • Prioritize those already on Healthy Savannah’s partner list.
    • Identify and document new potential partners.
    • Encourage and schedule lactation policy consultation. 
    • Submit findings as a final deliverable by the end of the internship.
  • Organize, schedule, and follow up on the delivery of breastfeeding-friendly certificates and decals to recognized breastfeeding-friendly organizations.
    • Attend and document certificate presentations when possible.


In-person, hybrid, and remote internships allowed.  Hours per week vary depending on practicum hour requirements.
