Aug. 9 declared Forsyth Farmers’ Market Day

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson has officially declared Aug. 9 as “Forsyth Farmers’ Market Day” in recognition of National Farmers’ Market Week.

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson has officially declared Aug. 9 as “Forsyth Farmers’ Market Day” in recognition of National Farmers’ Market Week. The week runs from Aug. 3-9. Celebrations were held during the weekly farmers’ market at Forsyth Park.

Johnson addressed the crowd, sharing his personal appreciation for farmers and the role they play in the local food system.

Vendors and community members echoed the mayor’s sentiments. Ancil Jacques, owner and operator of Swampy Appleseed Mushrooms, emphasized the importance of supporting local food producers.

“It’s not just important, sustaining your local food community, but it really, really helps the community as a whole to get together and come to the watering hole here and get produce where it should be gotten from,” Jacques said.

Armand Turner and Christian Shellman also spoke at the event, expressing their gratitude for the recognition of the market’s impact on the community.

As visitors browsed the market, they had the opportunity to learn more about local agriculture, interact with the mayor, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. The Forsyth Farmers’ Market, the largest of its kind in southeast Georgia, continues to serve as a hub for fresh produce and community engagement.
