Staying Hydrated Without the Sugar!

It’s important to take in enough fluids throughout the day to stay hydrated, and this especially holds true in the hottest months of the year. Water is our bodies’ preferred source of hydration, and sugary drinks like sweet teas and sodas don’t do the job as well and are bad for our health. However, there are some fun ways to jazz up your water without all of the added sugar.

WatermelonWater Infusions: Adding a few slices of fruit and/or some herbs can add a flavor punch to your water. Simply slice the fruit to increase surface area and stir into a pitcher of water. The strength of the flavor will increase with time, but it should be ready to enjoy within an hour. For herbs and fruits that are more difficult to slice like berries a big stir and mashing with a long spoon should do the trick. Below are a few combinations to get you started, but feel free to try out your own.
  • Watermelon Mint
  • Strawberry Basil
  • Citrus Splash (orange, lemon, lime)
  • Peach Raspberry
Iced Teas:
There are tons of herbal teas that offer great flavor without the caffeine that comes with black tea. You can purchase tea bags or loose leaf tea and follow the package instructions depending on the amount of tea you wish to make. In the summer months, fruity teas like hibiscus can be very refreshing and can be made extra special with a mint garnish. Below are a few herbal teas we love. If you are on any certain medications, it’s important to check with your doctor or pharmacist to see if there are any herbal teas you should avoid.
  • Chamomile (goes great with lavender)hydration
  • Hibiscus
  • Peppermint
  • Ginger
  • Tulsi
