Farm to School Workshop 2014

Join us to kick start this year’s Farm to School activities in Savannah through this hands-on workshop!

Workshop Topics include:

  • School Gardening 101

This session is designed to answer the question, “How and where do I start?”  The basics of how to design and set up a school garden are discussed.

  • Teaching Math with the Square Foot Gardening Method

This session is designed to teach you how to develop mathematical thinking in your students using the Square Food Gardening method.  As your students plan, build, plant, and harvest plants, they will learn standards based concepts.

  • School Garden Sustainability

Developing a successful school garden requires people, a place, and means for plant care.  Developing a systematic plan to ensure long term success requires clear functional goals.  This session is designed to help you develop those goals with a school Garden Sustainability Plan.

  • The School Garden Curriculum Connection

This session will teach you how to connect the school gardening experience with the Georgia education standards. Resources that provide a variety of lessons linking curriculum with gardening activities will provided.  You will learn how to teach any subject using the school garden experience.

*Open to everyone (teachers, parents, middle and high school students, farmers, etc) who is interested in working with a school garden.

**Teachers may apply to receive 1 PLU for attending this workshop and completing a short assignment.

REGISTRATION is limited, so register here soon.

This workshop is a Growing Edge Community Collaboration event sponsored by the Chatham School Nutrition Department, West Broad Street YMCA, and the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.
