On January 31, 2017 the City of Savannah hosted the first national Invest Health Pod Convening. Invest Health is a new initiative that brings together diverse leaders from 50 mid-sized U.S. cities across the nation to develop new strategies for increasing and leveraging private and public investments to accelerate improvements in neighborhoods facing the biggest barriers to better health. The Savannah team includes representatives from Healthy Savannah, City of Savannah, Savannah Chatham Metro Police, St Joseph’s/Candler Health System, and Carver State Bank. Each team was awarded a grant by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Reinvestment Fund. This grant brings exciting new resources to Savannah. City and community leaders, visitors from other grantee cities, as well as representatives from RWJF and the Reinvestment Fund took a trolley tour to explore all of what Savannah has to offer as well as to obverse where there are opportunities to improve. The 30-second video below reflects some of the highlights! The trip began on a beautiful Savannah day in historic downtown, made their way to the western communities to visit the great assets already in places well as see where there are opportunities to improve. The tour then ended at the Jepson Center for the Arts for a vivid panel discussion followed by a reception.
